▪ Dionysus Black figure lekythos ▪

Dionysus takes his place at the center of the scene, seated and crowned, lifting his drinking horn as a maenad and two satyrs dance in celebration around him. This black-figure lekythos captures a moment of ritual joy, wine, and controlled ecstasy, exactly as it was imagined in Athens in the late 6th century BC.

Based on an original shoulder lekythos attributed to the Taleides Painter and dated to 550–540 BCE, this reproduction follows the ancient model with precision and respect. The siren on the shoulder, framed by grazing wild goats, and the added red bands reflect the visual language and elegance of early Attic pottery, recreated using the same materials and techniques as the ancient workshops.

▪ First made in May 2012 for the opening of the Attic Black shop, this lekythos is released only in limited editions every six to eight months. Each piece is handmade in Athens for collectors who value archaeological accuracy, craftsmanship, and objects with provenance and meaning.

▪ A museum-quality vessel for private spaces, designed to be owned, studied, and lived with.

Long before the iconic blue domes of modern Santorini, the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri on Thera was a thriving hub of art and innovation.

▪ Our Thera Cylindrical Vase III is a tribute to that lost world, meticulously hand-built to honor a form that first emerged in the second millennium BCE.

▪ What makes this piece truly special is the harmony between ancient inspiration and technical precision. We use a hand-building process to create the elegant cylindrical body and unique knob-like handles, just as artisans did nearly 4,000 years ago.

▪ To achieve its distinctive finish, the vase is fired at 1,100°C in stoneware. We replicate the ancient "alternating" firing atmosphere, switching between oxidizing and reducing conditions, to capture the raw, earthy essence of the original Aegean ceramics.

▪ The result is a bridge across time, blending a minimalist, prehistoric silhouette with a fully glazed interior that fits perfectly into a contemporary home.

At Attic Black, research comes first. Every piece is the result of scientific study of ancient materials and techniques, translated into contemporary objects meant to be used and lived with today.

Ever wondered how ancient Greeks combined ritual with functional design?

▪ This striking piece is a Kernos, a unique type of multiple vase that feels surprisingly modern despite its roots in the late 4th century BCE.

▪ This specific reproduction by Attic Black is based on an original find from the Ancient Agora of Athens, unearthed during excavations in May 1932. If you look closely at the rim, you’ll see small cups attached all the way around. In antiquity, these vessels were central to religious ceremonies, particularly those honoring Demeter and Persephone. Each little cup would hold a different offering, think grains, seeds, oil, or incense, to ensure fertility and favor from the gods.

▪ The design itself is quite clever. The flaring base and handles that turn inward weren't just for show; they likely helped priests or worshippers carry the vessel steadily during long processions. While it started as a ritual object, the original was found in a context linked to food preparation, which is exactly how we recommend using it today.

▪ Imagine this as a centerpiece for your next dinner party, the small cups are perfect for serving different salts, spices, or dipping oils, bringing a piece of the Ancient Agora right to your table.
This handmade, black-glazed masterpiece is a true conversation starter and a bridge to the past. You can own this piece of living history for €450,00.
