Honda has unveiled its next-gen fuel cell module at the 23rd International Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo in Tokyo.

The new module costs 50% less to produce, lasts twice as long, and needs less maintenance. It’s also three times more power-dense, making it compact (28.7" × 27.5" × 22.8") and lightweight (550 lbs) for easy installation.

With 59.8% efficiency and 450-850V output, it operates in extreme temperatures (-30°C to 60°C) and at altitudes up to 3,500 m. Honda will equip 300 CR-Vs with this fuel cell for California.

Toyota claims the new fuel cell offers 20% more range and will also be used in heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
