Today, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, we acknowledge and appreciate the remarkable women who play this extraordinary role in our lives. Mothers are our first teachers and caregivers whose selfless love, strength and sacrifices continue to guide the hands that shape our nation.

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers. ❤

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of officially handing over the keys of a Toyota Hiace bus to Shaheed’s Boys and Girls Orphanage. The handover took place during a simple ceremony held on the grounds of the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) on Woolford Avenue, Georgetown.

This donation was made possible from the proceeds raised by the Iftar Cafe at the Ramadan Village and will assist in supporting the transportation needs of the orphanage by ensuring that children can travel safely and comfortably to school and to other activities.

In partnership with the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana, I was also honoured to open a new children’s play park at the Muslim Youth Organisation ground. This space will offer a safe and enjoyable environment for children to play, socialise and create lasting childhood memories.

Yesterday, Zayd raised and donated $10 Million to ten animal welfare groups through his lemonade sale at State House. The funds raised will be used to subsidize the cost of spaying and neutering dogs and cats at Animal Kingdom Pet Care. The groups also received a quantity of dog chow which was sponsored by Toucan Distributors.

The organisations that benefited from yesterday’s activity include: Guyana Foundation for Animal Welfare and Rescue, Furball & Friends, Paw some Oasis, Ravena's Rescue, Hope for Animals Inc., Rosewood Foundation, Tails of Hope, Paws for a Cause, and Guyana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA).

Over the years, I’ve taken great pride in witnessing Zayd’s commitment to raising awareness and directly supporting animal welfare groups. It is my hope that his dedication to this cause would also inspire and encourage others to get involved in these efforts.

I take this time to extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who supported the lemonade sale either through sales, donations, or volunteering. Your presence and generosity have not gone unnoticed.
