New study on causes of maternal death:
Severe bleeding (haemorrhage) and hypertensive disorders like preeclampsia are the leading causes of maternal deaths, together claiming around 130,000 lives worldwide in 2020.

Tragically, too many women lack access to lifesaving treatments and quality care during pregnancy and childbirth. These deaths are preventable—urgent action is needed to ensure every woman can access safe, high-quality maternity services that save lives and protect health.
