Toussaint Louverture, black genius known as Toussaint Breda, Fatrabaton, François Dominique, great martyr, messiah of freedom and universal pioneer of human rights who fought bruising the chains of slavery with the status quo inspired black folks a mission of liberty.
Organized with Bookman, the leader of maroons, the Bois Caiman ceremony, August 14, 1791 and on the night of 21, 22 August 1791 coordinated slave revolt, broke out in the north of the Island, the area of the largest plantations, black slave massacred their wicked masters, and set fire everywhere. All black slaves broke out the slavery’s chains.
He was arrested on June 7, 1802. Brunet transported him and his companion, on the frigate Creole and 74-gun Heroes, claiming that he suspected him of plotting another uprising. Upon boarding the Creole, Toussaint warned his captors the rebels would not repeat his mistake, saying that,
“ In overthrowing me you have cut down in Saint Domingue only the trunk of the tree of liberty, it will spring up again from the roots, for they are numerous and they are deep.
The ship reached France on July 2, 1802, on August 25, Toussaint was imprisoned at Fort-De-Joux, France, died April 7, 1802.
He left Jean Jacques Dessalines, his troop commander to defeat Napoleon Bonaparte at the battle of vertières 1803. Haiti became first black country independent in the world.
