Cyclolab Kft
CycloLab is a world-wide recognized and all-round cyclodextrin research and development company.
The expected so long was concluded on 17 June, Friday. The about 160 participants (the detailed statistics come soon) agreed on the importance of the personal meetings and discussions. The symposium gave this opportunity.
The 3 plenary presentations by highly recognized Prof. Stodart, Prof. Ito and Prof. Sollogoub gave an insight into the CD-based MOFs, the sliding gels (already used in the car industry) and synthesis of derivatives as artificial proteins, respectively.
In addition to the 16 keynote and 44 oral presentations including also the talks of the two awardees: Aurore Fraix (Catania University) and Angela Scala (University of Messina) 62 posters were displayed in the widest range of CD applications. During the fruitful discussions in the auditorium, during poster sessions and coffee breaks we could share ideas and start new collaborations.
The conference started with an excursion to the Mount Etna one day after a smaller eruption at sunset. During the gala dinner we enjoyed the excellent Italian food and the beautiful panorama to Taormina Bay.
Thanks are due to the organizers, especially to Prof. Mazzaglia and his team for organizing such an interesting scientific event and unique social programs on a so beautiful place in Sicily.

pH-Responsive templates modulate the dynamic enzymatic synthesis of cyclodextrins🍩
Product selection in the dynamic enzymatic synthesis of can be controlled by changing the pH. Using cyclodextrin glucanotransferase to make labile the glycosidic linkages in cyclodextrins (CDs), a dynamic combinatorial library of interconverting linear and cyclic α-1,4-glucans was generated.
Templates can be employed to favour the selective production of specific CDs and, herein, we show that by using ionisable templates, the synthesis of α-CD or β-CD can be favoured by simply changing the pH. Using 4-nitrophenol as the template, β-CD is the preferred product at low pH, while α-CD is the preferred product at high pH.
❗️Furthermore, a new methodology is described for the simulation of product distributions in dynamic combinatorial libraries with ionisable templates at any given pH.
