šŸ“¢ Government to bring in Full Pay for Domestic Violence Leave

The Government has confirmed that victims of domestic violence will be entitled to their full pay when they take the new leave. Equality Minister Roderic O'Gorman made the announcement this week (8th August), saying that it was important that victims of domestic violence do not have to worry about losing income.

Under current legislation, people who are suffering from or at risk of domestic violence will be entitled to take five days of leave per year, starting in the autumn.

This legislation was signed into law earlier this year, with Mr O'Gorman permitted to adjust the existing regulations around payment levels for domestic violence leave.

Initially, the Government had proposed partial payments for victims of domestic violence. Within the bill, the Work-Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2022, it was recommended that daily
payments from an employer be 70% of the daily salary rate but that it be capped at €110 per day. It also recommended introducing a minimum rate of entitlement for those who take up the leave.

According to Mr O'Gorman, the decision to alter the rate of pay was reached following consultation with domestic violence support organisations, employers' representatives and trade unions.

Employers will be expected to have a Domestic Violence Leave Policy in
place to reflect this new entitlement. Elm Castle Consultancy can provide a bespoke policy to ensure your business is compliant with thisnew legislation. Get in touch today to ensure your business and your employees are protected and supported.

A night of education and entertainment in the beautiful Mansion House.

The stories and experiences shared by and Sharon Keegan created a lovely connection in the room.Ā

They are two of the most authentic people I've met, who weren't afraid to be real and true to who they are & how they got to where they are today. Hardworking business woman who will drive other business woman to action.Ā

It was my first business networking event, encouraged by to attend and I'm so glad I did, it was unforgettable.

Thanks for everyone in who made me feel so welcomed. I loved talking to so many strong female leaders doing their best work!

Looking forward to the next one already.Ā

Did you know that every month the latest Workplace Relations Commission decisions and recommendations are published on their website?

I try to read as many as I can each month, they are interesting, informative, & sometimes even shocking!

I'm also surprised by the amount of businesses today who are still running without Human Resources support. The dangers of the lack of HR within a company can be seen in some of these cases.

To all Employers and HR professionals make some time each month for yourself to check out these decisions & recommendations, to learn from them and avoid making the same costly mistakes.

Today is a date to be celebratedšŸŽ‰ to celebrate the lives and work of nursesā¤ļø

This International Nurses' Day I’m posting a personal story about the care provided to my little girl Brooke who in February spent 10 days in Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin after her appendix burst.

The care and kindness she received was amazing. I’m privileged to work in the public Healthcare sector for many years, I’ve always admired and respected my nursing colleagues for the work they do. During our recent hospital stay, the nursing team absorbed all our worries and fears, made Brooke feel safe, responded to all her physical and emotional needs & helped her to heal šŸ’œ

I witnessed great teamwork and boundless energy from every Nurse on the ward, they showed so much compassion when caring for my little girl.

For me professionally it was a refreshing reminder why in my role in HR, I must always keep trying to transform, to support nurses as they are an invaluable resource, and the important of keeping all Staff, Patients and Families at the centre of everything we do.

Thankfully Brooke bounced back, made a full recovery and is doing what she loves most, playing football ⚽😊
