With rescues full to the brim due to people’s poor decisions why buy when you can give an existing dog a loving new home 🏡

Training a puppy from a puppy farm can be 10 times hard than training a rescue dog. The fake set up of all dogs being in the house when you pick them up is not a true picture and every dog is on their best behaviour because the situation is so unknown to them.
Puppy farming can cause:
❌ maternal stress - a stressed mom equals stressed puppies
❌ A puppy who struggles adjusting to a home environment sounds and outside world sounds due to being raised in a barn or kennel
❌ A puppy who has sound and visual fears - high visibility jackets, hoses, sweeping brushes. Due to over production and poor animal care puppy areas are cleaned infrequently while they are in there meaning they have no chance to have a positive association with the hose that is cleaning them and their “home” and the person doing it is now also scary
❌ F***l eating - due to poor diet and no supervision meaning the area is not cleaned up to prevent it
❌ Puppies who dislike being handled - as they have never been handled before
❌ Puppies who dislike kids as they’ve never seen them before
❌ Puppies who hate the car as they have only ever been to the vet in the car

The list goes on……

Don’t be disheartened by rescues turning you away from a dog you wanted. Often they have many dogs who need an experienced owner, a large garden (as they don’t yet know how to walk on a lead), a house with no kids etc etc. Just because one social media posts has specifics they have lots of dogs who are suitable to any home. Pop into a rescue and find a dog that’s chooses you, what we think we want is rarely what we need 🐶💙

Preparing enrichment for the night of Halloween is not enough to counter the fear of fireworks. If there’s a room full of your worst fear are you gonna feel safe eating ice cream in the corner?

Preparations involves behaviour modification for most dogs. Please seek the help you need to prevent the trauma for next year and start now.

It will take your dog longer than 72 hours to destress if they are experience other triggers - continued fireworks, intense storms, flying garden furniture, outdoor reactivity. Give them what they need to unwind.

Halloween doesn’t have to be a stress. Myself and Ben enjoyed a lovely walk watching fireworks from a distance while he rested, we ate dinner out at a restaurant to avoid trick or treaters ringing the doorbell constantly and we came home to a warm cozy house and rested for the evening with no stress despite lots of fireworks around. He had a lick mat snd his usually snuffle dinner and went off to sleep completely ignoring the sounds.
