Super clean mk4 Golf GTI 180hp downpipe, fmic 6 speed
This was a tad more problematic than our usual tuning session but still ended flawlessly 😉

Upon loading a base map with 1 bar boost and no ignition advance and scaling lambda to a more sensible 0.85 to not roast the engine I caught early on the lambda wasn’t tracking our specified which is trouble 🤦‍♂️

Essentially a turbo petrol with boost and no fuel will result in a blown engine in no time. Within no time we had the 20+ year old unit swapped out with a Audi s3 8p pump and boom we’ve got perfect lambda tracking as seen in the photo✅

But that wasn’t the end of our problems, increasing boost up to 1.45 we dropped into limp mode almost immediately 🤦‍♂️ what could it be now ? Upon inspection the diverter valve it clearly wasn’t a genuine part and funnily enough was never an issue at standard but when tuning and more than doubling the boost pressure it emphasises weak points, unfortunately we didn’t have a diverter valve in stock but the customer got one ordered and limp mode is gone 😎

Now running 1.45b peak tapering down with the revs, added ignition timing and a properly scaled load request means this car is now sitting pretty at 230hp

Currently we’re running gate pressure (1 bar boost ) and it is QUICK just to reference this turbo will make 380 hp at 1.4 bar so it’s safe to say we’re currently in the 300s range with full boost coming in 3-3500 rpm till redline (6800) as for now as the engine is completely stock.

Because of that fact we will be conservative with the ignition timing and ensure we keep under the rule of 300ft lbs or the metric equivalent of 400nms as well as keeping the revs capped until we get some rods, valves and springs and pin the crank 🤯

Once that is done we’ll get a flex fuel setup going and 450hp is the new goal
But for now 310-350 with progressive torque will do 😁
