Update on the 80 Bus Route

Dublin Bus have announced a change of the route of the new 80.

From Sunday 8th February, the 80 will continue down the north Quays until Batchelor's Walk turning right at O'Connell Bridge and then through D'Olier Street, College Green and Dame Street when it resumes its previous route on South Great George's Street to Dartry/Palmerston Park.

Going in the direction to Liffey Valley, the 80 will now also stop on Dame Street (near Costa Coffee), Westmorland Street, Wood Quay (Civic Offices) and Merchant's Quay.

While this change has restored a direct connection to the City Centre for Palmerstown and Chapelizod, it remains unclear whether this will be a solution to the catalogue of delays, no shows and cancellations that have blighted the route since its introduction to replace the 26, part of the BusConnects so called improvements.

Dublin Bus and the National Transport Authority still intend to combine the 80's route to the city centre with the 130 (to Clontarf) in "Quarter 2 of 2026." It is equally uncertain how this measure addresses any of the concerns raised at the many public meetings and protests in late 2025 and early 2026.
