Wow what a great way to finish off the weekend with a win in the men’s Club 8+ the first time any club crew has won the event.

We had amazing racing throughout all events and the club would like to extend its thanks to all members past and present who have helped out and made Commercial the amazing club that it is you’re contribution is not forgotten.

Make sure to join us on the 19th of July in the club from 7pm as we will be holding a reception for the 50th anniversary of the first women’s crew at a world championships.

Also a special mention to Adam Browne who is taking over from Aaron Hurley as club captain the upcoming season.

See you all there!

After a day of great racing by all Commercial crews we narrowly missed out on getting our names on the championships list of 2025 but with 2 more days of action packed racing we will be well in the hunt!

• Henley Royal Regatta (Preview) – John Aiken
‘Squad Quad’ leads Irish challenge at Henley
Following an encouraging weekend’s racing at Lucerne, where Ireland won a silver and two bronze medals, the two men’s double sculls which finished 3rd (Fintan McCarthy and Konan Pazzaia) and 5th (Daire Lynch and Paul O’Donovan) join forces to form a quadruple scull to compete in the Queen Mother Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta this week. With two Olympic champions in the Lightweight Double Sculls (McCarthy and O’Donovan) and an Olympic bronze medallist in Open Double Sculls (Lynch) teaming up with the Queen’s University Belfast sculler, Pazzaia, Rowing Ireland’s high-performance coach, Dominic Casey, will be keen to see how they combine as he plans for the World Rowing Championships later in the summer. The Skibbereen/ UCD/Queen’s composite takes on the Dutch National Team in the first round here on Friday, with the winner to face the victorious GB crew from Lucerne last Sunday, which has a bye to the semi-final.
Though the Irish entry here has clearly been hit by the close proximity of the Irish Rowing Championships at the National Rowing Centre at Farran Wood five days later, there is some quality in the two remaining crews from Commercial Rowing Club, who enter fours from their eight which came 18th in the Head of the River Race on the Tideway in London last March, winning there the pennant for fastest overseas crew.
First up tomorrow morning is the selected crew (Henley’s form of seeding) of Tom Stevens, MacDara Allison, Michael Fanning and Colum Brennan. Three of this crew won at the Erne Fours Head and in the Skibbereen Grand League. They were also the fastest crew in their Henley class on the Sunday of London Met. Regatta at Eton Dorney a few weeks ago. Facing UK Armed Forces RC ‘A’ in their first round race tomorrow morning, they will be hopeful to progress in what promises to be another searingly hot day, with something to spare. The second coxed four of Ed Meehan, Ronán Brennan (twin brother of Colum), Chris Dehaene, Liam Junkerman and cox Rowan Hamilton enter the fray on Wednesday in what promises to be a very tight encounter with Nottingham Rowing Club
