Yesterday, ShoutOut met with the Government to discuss a range of issues affecting LGBTIQ+ communities, alongside our colleagues across Irish LGBTIQ+ organisations.
We spoke about a number of priority issues for our community, including the needs of LGBTIQ+ youth, responses to misinformation and polarisation, trans healthcare, online safety, and more.
Ireland has come a long way on LGBTIQ+ equality - but we still have steps to take. Pride is an opportunity to celebrate that progress, but it’s also a moment to advocate for those of us still facing barriers, and to safeguard our hard-won equality into the future.
We’re grateful to all those who fought for our rights to date, and we will continue campaigning to ensure every LGBTIQ+ person in Ireland can fully and proudly be themselves.
We will do this through education and dialogue, through allyship development, and through advocacy to the government on our community’s needs. Yesterday’s meeting was a constructive step forward - to communicate those needs, and to think collectively about meaningful solutions. Pride is never the end of these conversations, but it can be a beginning. We’re heartened to have had this moment with the Government to share our vision for lasting LGBTIQ+ equality, and to hear their support for a kinder, more equal country.
