After many years of work by our research team, led by Dr. Cathy Daly, the National Monuments Service and the Office of Public Works, the Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment Report for Sceilg MhichĂl has been published!

This work involved background research into the island, its tangible and its intangible values and the projected climate and associated hazards. Through community and technical expert workshops, the priority risks were identified for the island. This document showcases some key opportunities for adaptation to ensure that the island can continue to provide the values it has to the people locally and nationally.

Last week, a colleague of ours Dr.Will Megarry led a one day workshop on Climate Literacy for Heritage Professionals. The climate literacy course was developed as part of the Preserving Legacies project with the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Climate Action Working Group and the Climate Heritage Network. A key goal of this project is to address a critical and time-sensitive need to equip those in the heritage sector to meaningfully respond to the challenges posed by climate change.

Our Senior Researcher, Dr. Cathy Daly spoke about the impacts of climate on heritage, delivering a workshop on key terms in climate change risk assessment and what we have learned so far through our work on the climate risk assessment of cultural heritage sites.

We will be developing a webpage of our work on cultural heritage and climate soon, so stay tuned!
