You might have only seen them when they put their hi-viz jackets on, but when you look around the stadium look past the pitch and the crowds. Think of the thousands of staff who worked behind the scenes to make days like this happen. Think of them as the beating heart of the operation.
Think of the line of people who check your tickets and who pointed you in the right direction when you were a little lost; the teams of people in hospitality, the food outlets and the bars who kept you fed and watered; the cleaners who cleaned up after you, the army of technicians, cameramen, sound crews and photographers who broadcast the game throughout the stadium and around the world; the people who kept the radios going so you could be safe, and the people who looked after you when you needed help.
These are the same people who work to long hours to make festivals and concerts amazing; the same people who work tirelessly at conferences and exhibitions to promote businesses internationally; and the same people who who work behind the scenes at your favourite theatre or venue to make your night a success.
Now think what happens when we finally get back to running these events and these people no longer work in the Event Industry?

We are regularly asked what we do. When we say Event Operations we get a puzzled look.
We work in the background but are always there when we are needed. We make sure you are safe but we are rarely seen.
We make sure the box office, the security lines, the medical centre, the toilets, the bins, the stewarding, the catering, the hospitality, the maintenance, the customer care and all the other customer services are there for you when you arrive.
We work alongside our production colleagues who make sure the stage is built, the sound and lights are right, the pyrotechnics amaze, the performers are prepared and the show goes on.
We work for months before the event to prepare and for weeks afterwards to tidy up.
This day last year 2,500 of us were ready to make sure 150,000 of you enjoyed the Westlife concerts in Croke Park.
This year the Show has Stopped.
We are an industry of almost 45,000 people in Ireland who have forged their own path, highly skilled and dedicated people who invest their own time and their own money to create events and experiences, to allow others to make memories that will last a lifetime.
We work at music concerts, community festivals, business conferences, sporting events, trade exhibitions, agricultural shows and the many other types of events the length and breadth of Ireland, across Europe and throughout the World.
The Event Industry is important to Ireland, not only culturally but also economically. It was worth over 3.5 Billion Euros to our Economy and contributed €850 million towards the Irish Export Market. For every €1 invested in the sector by the State it returns €52. Live events alone were directly responsible for 3.2 Million Bed nights a year. For every €1 spent on a ticket in Ireland, another €6 was spent in the wider hospitality and tourism sectors.
We were one of the first industries to shut and we will be the last to return to full capacity, but we can only return to full capacity if we can retain the expertise we have developed over the past decades.
In the past live events continued through wars, they raised money for famine, they raised the spirits of a nation in times of need and provided a focus in times of celebration. For decades when money was needed to be raised for a charity, we were asked to help.
Now, for the first time we have to ask for help and support.
Our industry representatives from the EPIC Working Group and Event Industry Association of Ireland have met with the government, but we need you to let your local politicians know how important this industry is to you. Without your support our plea for help may fall on deaf ears.
Please share with your friends, but more importantly Share this with your local representatives. Share this with your TD's and your County Councillors.
