Ireland’s human rights record is set to be examined later this year (10th November) by the UN Human Rights Council. Today, we have invited civil society to our offices for a capacity building event. Speaking at the event Deirdre Malone, IHREC Director welcomed attendees “Never has this work been more essential both at home and globally. National Human Rights Organisations are now a crucial bulwark against the erosion of human rights, the backsliding of democracy and the creeping destruction of the rule of law in many countries worldwide. We must take every opportunity and use every tool at our disposal in our defence and promotion of human rights and equality.”

On , we were delighted to travel to Limerick to meet with local community groups and civil society to talk about structural poverty. Our Commission members heard from local experts who spoke about the issues affecting people in Limerick, and broke into groups to come up with ideas for building strategies for change. With massive thanks to Southill Hub Community Centre for hosting the workshop and our Commission meeting.
