I Wish I Could Soothe You

I wish I could soothe you.
I wish I could ease the madness that you cling to.
You long for magic, but you cannot see the mysteries of life.
You boost your sense of self-importance with a life of endless strife.

Who cares if no one listens to your words?
Each thought, each tear creates the future that we share.
But if you look within – into your deepest self,
You’ll find there’s no one there.

You are God and Goddess. You are just a grain of sand…
So small and far away you are not seen.
And yet so large you hold the universe within your hand,
And all the world would bow to your command.

But there are no words you wish to say.
You do not need to make things any other way.
The flow is all, and life must flow both wild and free.
And though I suffer and will die one day, I know that I am God.
I know that God is me…

Emancipation

When she flew, the world just never knew.
The work was done, and no one really cared.
When she fell, she fell into her private hell.
Alone and hurt and scared.

No one saw her wounds, and no one paid attention to her scars.
No one stopped to help her with her load.
Even Christ had someone help him lift his cross.
But the Irish mother walked a lonely road.

Once upon a time, they had the priests.
When dreams of heaven were the nearest that we came to wealth.
We gazed at golden statues every Sunday, but the women bore the brunt,
While the menfolk slipped off early to the pub and drank the children’s health.

A Thousand Tears

It may take a thousand tears to wash away the pain.
Or, it may take a thousand days of dancing in the rain.
But nothing lasts forever, neither pain, nor joy, nor grief.
The force that shapes our lives is, mostly, just the lens of our beliefs.

Every day is gifted, even in our darkest days, when peace is hard to find.
The path ahead may leave us pining for the life we left behind.
But even mountains will be worn away by ice, and wind, and rain.
Each blessed day we have will never come this way again.

Give thanks for every tear and every frown and every smile.
Nothing in this life will last for more than just a little while.
And while we dance the dance of life, our hearts will always know
That hope and kindness are the guides that show us where to go.

Am I angry?

Well, sometimes I have to admit that I am.
I was living the life of a self-made man.
I thought I was winning the race I was running.
I thought I was blessed with both strength and with cunning.

But cunning won’t help when your strength is depleted.
Along with the luck that you’d never admit.
Your health is your wealth – of that there’s no doubt.
But mortality sucks when your health’s running out.

And yet, when I found I was too tired to fight.
Instead of new battles, much to my delight.
When I stumbled and fell, I was humbled to see
That a legion of angels was comforting me.

The Storm

I will not fight the storm. I will simply rest beneath the trees.
What is washed away was never, ever meant to stay,
And what remains is never guaranteed.
But neither were we meant to live our lives upon our knees.

We refuse to beg the favours of divinities.
We refuse to bow our heads like children or like slaves.
We who share divinity and yet who bleed so easily,
Refuse to live our lives in subjugation or to live our lives afraid.

We will curse the storm and stand with arms and voices raised.
We will face the consequences of this less-than-perfect world we made.
Then, as the madness of this world had faded into the eternal night.
We, who once were gods, will right our wrongs and forge a brand new world from what is right.
