Kells Tennis Club will host an Open Day next month to celebrate the reopening of its resurfaced courts at Rockfield Road.

The event takes place on Saturday, June 6 from 12pm–3pm and will include a demonstration match, along with the opportunity for members of the public to try out tennis with rackets provided.

A great chance to see the upgraded facilities and get involved in a long-standing local club.

A tight contest full of momentum swings went right to the wire before the home side finished strongest on a 3-8 to 4-4 scoreline.

Blackwater Community First Responders will host a Sepsis Awareness Evening in Kells next month, featuring a talk from North East Sepsis Awareness (NESA) on recognising the signs and symptoms of sepsis and the importance of acting quickly.

The event takes place in the Headfort Arms Hotel on Wednesday, June 17 and is open to all members of the public.

Loughcrew Gaels/Gaeil Colmcille produced a superb second-half comeback in Grangegodden to defeat Na Fianna and claim the U16 Division 1 Hurling Shield title.

Trailing by nine points early in the second half, the north Meath side fought their way back into the contest before sealing a dramatic 3-19 to 5-5 victory in the closing stages.

A big night for the players and management, with two of the group’s season targets already achieved before the end of May.

Kells Theatre School is set to take to the stage next weekend with its end-of-year gala production, featuring more than 60 children and teenagers in a variety showcase of musical theatre, drama and live performance.

This year’s show includes The Little Mermaid mini musical alongside comedy sketches, poems, pop medleys and solo performances, all taking place in Old Eureka School Hall, Navan Road, on Saturday, May 23 at 7pm.

A big night of local talent as another year of work and rehearsals comes to a close.

Laoise Carry Lynch, a young Kells girl, has been praised for a thoughtful fundraising initiative in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital, with a handmade card project supported locally and continuing to grow over the past year.

Laoise has been raising funds through her own designs, with support from local businesses and the wider community.

Eureka Secondary School U15 put in a strong performance in the Leinster final, narrowly losing out 2-1 to Dominican College Griffith Avenue in a closely contested match in Dublin.

Léana Coyne scored the goal for Eureka in a game that remained tight throughout, with little separating the sides from start to finish.

A committed display from the team who can take plenty from their Leinster campaign and will no doubt build on this experience in the seasons ahead.

St. Ciarán's Community School are North Leinster first-year champions after edging a dramatic local derby against St Oliver’s Oldcastle at Ballinlough.

Trailing by eight points during the second half, the Kells school battled back strongly before sealing a thrilling 8-9 to 6-12 victory in the closing stages.

Members of Kells Lively Citizens spent the day making their way through the “people’s house” this week with a visit to Leinster House, taking in a guided tour of Oireachtas Éireann, including Dáil Éireann proceedings and a hearty meal!

The group also learned more about the building’s Georgian history, originally the palace of the Duke of Leinster before becoming the seat of the Oireachtas.

The visit was organised by Kells community representative Cormac Corr PC - Kells & North Meath in collaboration with Meath Senator Sharon Keogan.

Plans for a new pedestrian and cycling link between the Jim Brunnock Road and Hermitage Glen/the Gardenrath Road, have been presented at a recent meeting of Kells Municipal District.

The proposed active travel route, which also includes a new pedestrian crossing on the Gardenrath Road, forms part of the Safe Routes to School Programme and could see significant improvements for local families and schoolchildren if approved.

The scheme would provide a more direct and safer walking route between residential areas and nearby schools, with works potentially underway later this year subject to planning and funding.

Gaeil Colmcille C.L.G made it four wins on the bounce after seeing off Trim at St Loman’s Park, finishing strongly with a late Harry Butler goal to seal the result.

Jordan Muldoon’s first-half goal laid the platform while scores from Adam Donnelly, Conor Óg Ferguson and Andrew Gormley kept the Kells side in control across the hour.

A solid evening for the Gaeils as their strong run of form continues heading into the coming weeks.
