🟧 A Status Orange warning is in place until 12pm Friday 17th July.
What this means:
🔥 Do Not Light barbeques or outdoor fires in forests or recreational areas. At home thoroughly soak BBQ embers after use and make sure that they are extinguished completely.
🚫 Landowners must follow restrictions on land burning
🚗 Park responsibly – Do not block entrances or roads when parking - access may be required by the fire service or forestry personnel in the event of an emergency
⚠️ Be extra vigilant in areas with dry vegetation, including forests, heathland and open countryside
📞 If you see a fire: Call 112 immediately, move to a safe location, and follow emergency instructions
🚓 Report any illegal and suspicious activity to An Garda Síochána.
📝Note that the burning of growing vegetation on uncultivated land between 1 March and 31 August each year is prohibited by law.
🧯Do not approach fires or attempt to extinguish fires yourself.
🔥Wildfires can be extremely dangerous and can rapidly change direction and behaviour.

Arising from continued high temperature weather patterns a high fire risk is deemed to exist in all areas where flammable vegetation such as dead grasses and heather and gorse exist. Current dry conditions are forecast to continue over the coming weekend. Elevated fire risks are expected in all areas during this period but will be especially focussed on eastern regions.

There is an added risk of underground peat fires on bogs where fires occur and an increased availability of larger fuel types across all land types. Windspeeds may exceed 20km/h in some eastern areas at times which may adversely affect fire behaviour and difficulty of suppression.

Current dry conditions are forecast to continue with further high temperature phases throughout the span of this notice. Elevated fire risks are expected in all areas during this period but will be especially focussed on eastern regions. With soil moisture deficits increasing there is an added risk of underground peat fires on bogs where fires occur and an increased availability of larger fuel types across all land types. Fire behaviour may also be adversely affected by light to moderate easterly winds during the span of this notice.

Continued vigilance to fire is warranted in areas with open public access and high fire risk activities. Landowners and managers should remain vigilant to all fire activity and report all suspicious activity to An Garda Siochana. Visitors to public recreational areas should cooperate with all fire safety requirements and not light open fires or barbeques in high-risk areas.

Rural users should cooperate with all requests regarding fire safety, obey all relevant byelaws and be considerate in parking vehicles so as not to impede access by emergency vehicles.

If you see a fire, do not delay; report it to the Fire and Emergency Services straight away. Do not wait for somebody else to make the call. Dial 999 or 112. You will not be billed by the fire service or local authority for making the call. Give clear details as regards location, where at all possible using a national grid reference and any other useful information such as the size of the fire, wind direction, proximity to dwellings or forestry etc. Do not attempt to tackle fires alone or without adequate training or protective equipment.
