Alsaa Swim Club

Well done to all our swimmers who competed in the last couple of weekends at the joint Leinster and Connacht Regional Championships, to the parents who supported them and who volunteered for the duties assigned to our club by the regions (Tom on top of everyone else)!

We had a great regional championship with excellent results, lots of PBs, qualifying times for the summer nationals, finals and, especially in Limerick last weekend, medals. Two individual silvers, two individual bronzes and our first relay medal at a regional level.

Cian, Adrian, Dylan and James showed a great sense of sportsmanship, camaraderie and friendship supporting each other in making up the team for the relay.

We have more competitions coming up, so keep up with the good work guys!

Another great friend and incredible sportsman has just left us! He was a true legend in Italian waterpolo circles (Olympic gold medal - Rome 1960) and in the general swimming community. I learnt to swim under his watchful eye, even if he wasn't my regular teacher, and then, many years later, I ended up working with him. He tried to get me as involved as possible in any form or shape in the aquatics. We had so many things in common and shared so many moments in the C.S.Aventino. I still remember him giving me an annual pass to watch the full season of the Lazio waterpolo championship when I was just a young man.
It was always a pleasure going back to the pool and having a chat with him.
R.I.P. Giancarlo. I am so sorry we never managed to have that beer together we said we would have next time I was in Rome. I'll think of you every time I am having a beer!
