Balleen Herd
Owned by Tom & Nuala Brennan and founded by Tom’s Grandfather. The record of the Balleen Herd since its foundation is formidable. Firstly under the management of Toms' Grandfather, then his late father Geoff and now with the assistance of his family the Balleen herd has produced a string of successes.
The Herd has won coveted awards at Society sales including the Premier Sale at Roscommon, The National Hereford Show in Tullamore with several awards including the National Bull Calf Championship and the National Heifer Calf Championship.
Corlismore Herd
Synonymous with breeding pedigree cattle, Sean McKiernan and his son Gary farm the Corlismore herd prefix established by Sean’s father John Philip in 1939.
Farmed on the banks of the River Erne in Co Cavan, the herd has enjoyed unrivaled success recently, claiming the top spot consistently across a number of sales and shows.
The herd now includes more than 40 Hereford cows. Bull power has contributed greatly to herd quality throughout the years, with the first bull purchased at the RDS getting the herd off to a great start. Since then, Corlismore has ensured that only the best of bulls take up residence on farm to maximise the impact they have on the herd.
Trillick Herd
Managed by the Farrell family, Co. Longford, the Trillick Herd has a long-standing association with pedigree Hereford cattle. Established in 1946 by James Farrell, the Trillick Hereford herd was continued by Patrick Farrell and is now managed by JJ, his wife and three children.
Several of the foundational females carried lines from the renowned Lugboy herd, owned by the late Mick Campbell, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon. To grow the herd, cow families were acquired from the prize-winning Killoe herd of the late Peter Hagan and today, the Farrell’s farm is home to thirty pedigree registered breeding females and a dairy herd. The Trillick Herd have sourced high-quality bulls from several countries including the U.K and Australia.
The utilisation of the best available genetics and a selective breeding policy are responsible for the herd’s phenomenal success in the show & sales rings & several bulls in A.I
