In his book ‘The well -tempered garden’ Christopher Lloyd states:

I suppose the common Myrtle, Myrtus communis, must be my favourite south-wall shrubs. The rich, spicy fragrance of its bruised leaves is etherealised,at flowering, into an air-bourne scent that comes to meet you. It’s flowering season, in August and September, is particularly useful and the white blossoms, with their pouffs of creamy stamens, are bourne in thousands on a mature plant.

I couldn’t have put that better myself 🤷 could I??

A favourite in Royal bridal bouquets since before queen Victoria’s time, Megan Markle’s bouquet is reputed to have had a sprig of Myrtle.

I appreciate the lovely cinnamon bark with its suede like texture.
And btw , it self seeds freely; get in touch if you would like to start your own Myrtle grove.
