THE TOP 10 REASONS PEOPLE FAIL THE DRIVING TEST?

1. Acting incorrectly at junctions; ineffective observation, approaching too fast, incorrect positioning.

2. Reversing; not looking all around, lack of accuracy, too far from the curb, mounting or hitting the curb.

3. Ineffective use of mirrors; not checking mirrors when changing direction, changing speed, before signaling. Top tip: when you look, make sure you see what's behind you.

4. Moving away safely; moving off when it's not safe, not checking blind spots, lack of control.

5. Inappropriate speed; going too fast or going too slow.

6. Signalling; not signalling at all, incorrectly signalling, forgetting to cancel and misleading other road users, signalling too early or too late.

7. Steering; not steering safely, steering too early, or too late.

8. Turn in the road; lack of control, ineffective observation, hitting or mounting the curb.

9. Positioning; lane discipline, incorrect positioning, roundabouts, bends, junctions.

10. Response to signs and traffic lights; not stopping at stop or give way signs, not stopping at traffic lights. Remember, amber light means you must stop unless you could cause an accident.

It is vital that your vehicle is in good working order and has no defects that could embarrass you or, worse, cause your examiner to cancel your test – as they have a right to do. The best way to avoid this happening is to put together a checklist.
