While we face local and regional emergency situation, we must stay committed to a better future for all, the work continues. This week, we mark International Women’s Day by sharing the insights and experiences of women from around the world who participated in MCTC’s professional training courses.
Five days. Five women. Five programs.

Day 2 | Building Community Resilience in Times of Crisis

Resilience is one of the most discussed concepts of our time — and for good reason. Around the world, communities are facing conflict, displacement, natural disasters, and prolonged uncertainty. The question is no longer whether crises will come, but how prepared we are to face them.

For women, this question carries particular weight. Women are often the first responders within their families and communities — the ones holding things together when systems are under pressure. Yet they are also disproportionately affected by crisis. On International Women's Day, it is worth recognizing that resilience is not just an abstract idea. It is daily, practical, and deeply personal work — and women are at the center of it.

In the Summer of 2024, MCTC, together with the International Resilience Center in Sderot, held an international course on "Building Community Resilience in Times of Crisis." The course brought together psychologists, social workers, and professionals from Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, Guatemala, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Rwanda, and Vietnam.

Over two weeks, participants explored Israeli models for coping with trauma, methods for developing resilience at both the personal and community level, psychological first aid as a tool for early intervention, and strategic approaches to crisis preparedness.
In today's video, Doreen Nkatha Mbae, a consulting psychologist and GBV focal point officer from Kenyatta National Teaching & Referral Hospital in Kenya, shares her perspective on the course and what she took away from the experience. 09/03/2026

As we navigate the current emergency situation, we believe it is more important than ever to highlight the resilience and leadership of women who continue to drive progress even in periods of great uncertainty.
