The importance of loading the quadriceps muscle in all ranges.

It is essential to implement isolated strength techniques as opposed to functional exercises such as squat with load.

This is because, significant strength deficits result in biomechanical compensatory strategies (cheating where the hip extensors are utilized instead of the knee extensors)

Therefore, functional exercises alone are an inadequate means for resolving quadriceps weakness and restoring normal quadriceps strength.

As isolated quadriceps strength increases, a gradual increase in the use of functional strength training techniques such as squat, deadlift, lunge and their derivatives can be implemented.
