The Schechter Institutes

Earlier this week, Schechter and the Rabbinical Assembly held a joint event bringing together clergy and their families - both from Israel and abroad for an afternoon of learning and dinner (of course, what Jewish event does not include food for the soul and nourishment for the body!)

The day's program brought together Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies teaching experts for learning and chevruta.

One group learned about the not so linear history of the Western Wall (Kotel) and its plaza since June 1967 with Prof. Doron Bar while a second group worked their way in and through Hassidic texts with Reb Mimi Feigelson.

It was great to be joined by Yizhar Hess and his team from the Jewish Peoplehood section of the World Zionist Organization - ההסתדרות הציונית העולמית

What makes a librarian happy?

People checking out books? Students in the library? People asking questions about library books? All of the above.

But what also makes a librarian happy is an influx of new relevant books!

Schechter's librarian, Yeshaya Fischman is again very happy! Why?

This week The Schechter Library of Jewish Studies received the final boxes of a special collection of books from Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The Hebrew University is closing down its library of education and social work, something which saddens, but on the other hand, the books - some 1,500 have been transferred to Schechter and are currently being catalogued.

This great new home will be the core of our growing Psychology and Bibliotherapy collection and serve the faculty and the students in Schechter's exciting, developing programs.
