At the end of the day, this is what it’s all about—time with family and friends, here in our homeland 🤍

With my dad’s first yahrtzeit coming up this week, I’ve been reflecting a lot on this past year. While I still struggle to understand the “why” behind my dad’s passing, I find myself deeply grateful for the incredible blessing of my mother.

This year, she’s spent significant time living with us, and I’m so thankful for the closeness that’s come from it. Not many people in their thirties get the chance to live with a parent again, and somehow, through heartache and loss, I’ve been given this gift. Watching the bond grow between my kids and their Bubby has been unbelievable — something I never had growing up with grandparents overseas. Seeing her become a second mother to them is truly magical.

And yes, don’t worry — even Betzalel is grateful to have his MIL around 😅. She’s up every morning making aruchat 10, serving the kids breakfast, and helping in a million ways.

My mother and I are like two peas in a pod. She loves art, parties, and food — the source of so much of my creativity. She’s also my favorite enabler, never saying no to any of my ideas. So if you ever think my kids’ parties are over the top… just know who to blame!

Thank you, Hashem, for the gift of being able to do kibbud horim in such a meaningful way. And thank You for the precious time we’ve been given together. I’m looking forward to the many more years we will have together and for the bonds to only grow stronger.

Some final details from this magical birthday that I still can’t get over!

My favorite part was definitely making this life-size fairly tale book myself! I taped large cardboard boxes from an Ikea closet together. Covered them with faux leather and then glued foam with a bit of a curve to give the papers some depth. Designed the pages on photoshop and sent to print. Added some coffee stained strips of paper to the edge to give the look of multiple pages and voilà 📕
