Reading such a detailed and emotionally perceptive response to the album was honestly overwhelming for me. What moved me most was not only the musical analysis, but the understanding of the emotional and introspective world behind the music.

This album was created as an homage to an era of progressive rock that shaped me profoundly, but also as a personal journey into identity, memory, longing, and inner struggle.

Sur la pochette de l’album, un homme recroquevillé en position fœtale est à terre, oreille bouchée pour feutrer la violence, une main qui veut de l’aide pour sortir de l’eau.
Cet album concocté par Dor Levin (synthétiser et basse) et Gil Elkan (paroles et batterie) est une complainte prenante sur de profondes réflexions et l’absurdité de vivre ou ne pas vivre, pourquoi en fait?
Ce projet musical propose un voyage introspectif au cœur de la construction d'une identité tourmentée abordant les thèmes de la douleur émotionnelle, de la passion, de l’amour et de la mémoire.

«Chapter Two» tisse et rend un bel hommage à Marillion de l'époque de Sir Fish, mais a finalement bifurqué vers l’histoire de «Leon», sorte de Tommy déglingué, traumatisé, des Who de 1969. Mais qui est qui?

Vous avez aimé, apprécié, écouté les voix de Fish puis de S. Hogarth dans les musiques de Marillion ou de Simone Rossetti de The Watch, de Peter Nicholls d’IQ, voire de Nad Sylvan, alors ouvrez grand vos oreilles et dégustez cette voix comparable à tessiture variable de Marco Vincini, connu pour être le leader de Mr. Punch, groupe tribute de Marillion.
Guest de ce groupe israélien montant ou à jamais pour ce second opus avec un nouveau guitariste aussi, Yohay Moyal, qui décoiffe de ses riffs et solos même les plus gominés!

«The Knot» le nœud d’un guerrier mercenaire sentimental romantique mais désabusé.
Plongez dans l'esprit tourmenté de ce soldat où fourmillent des thèmes sur la disparition, le vieillissement, le rêve, le cauchemar, la solitude, l'angoisse de la guerre, les aspirations, la crise existentielle et identitaire d'une âme en peine, «Sentimental Mercenaries» saura captiver vos oreilles et susciter en vous des réflexions profondes.

«Lover’s End», un chef-d'œuvre magistral, un matin souriant, l’amour n’a jamais de fin.

Ce qu’on retient de ce second album est la douceur des accords, synthé et guitare classique mêlés à l’intro puis des envolées magiques. Sentimental Mercenaries explose en bouche comme un très bon caviar, voix à la Sir Peter Gabriel et, à la deuxième minute, solo de guitare fabuleux, puis retour au calme romantique et doux. Diantre! On dirait du Genesis me crie ma voix intérieure, guitare solo à couper le souffle, Steve et John Hackett apprécieraient!

«Freudian Creature»: comment se construire dans l’absurdité du monde? La musique nous donne la force d’y paraître, et elle serait l'inspiration d’y être!

Marco Vincini, connu comme le loup blanc en Italie mais pas comme un poisson en Israël, est pourtant à coup sûr «Fish’s Corner», des chœurs de voix qui nous transportent vers le passage d’été avec des rires et des larmes de bonheur, le solo de fin du nouveau guitariste Yohay Moyal est ensorcelant avant les dernières note du piano.
«Leon» démarre sur un riff de guitare et synthé un rien écossais qui chatoie nos oreilles, le reflet pur d’une âme marillionienne, cavalcade de sons à jamais résonnants, les notes de synthé volent au secours de ces mercenaires sentimentaux, la musique adoucit les mœurs et c’est tant mieux, le final sur une voix céleste ou féminine ou androgyne avec des accords de guitare sèche, vous apprécierez les oreilles!

Le dernier morceau, «Tear of Silence», plus extrême metal avec une voix caverneuse et rugueuse, c’est moins ma tasse de thé, mais la musique est envoûtante, les larmes du silence à ne jamais oublier car elles peuvent aussi sécher et sont salées comme la mer et les océans, notre source de vie à tous.

En attendant le dernier volet de cette trilogie, rendons grâce à tous ces talentueux musiciens qui partagent ou qui ont partagé; le «Chapter One» de juillet 2025 portait déjà en son sein deux morceaux très orientés prog: «Mustang 51» (guitare de Leehu Zysberg) et «The Ocean».

What began as a deeply personal homage to the spirit of classic progressive rock slowly became something else entirely — a journey into memory, longing, love, alienation, and the struggle to become oneself.

Chapter Two: Leon is a concept album following Leon, a troubled and searching soul moving through emotional collapse, desire, psychoanalysis, and the need to find meaning within human connection.

Sentimental Mercenaries – Chapter One is now on Bandcamp

I’m proud to share that Chapter One is now available on Bandcamp.

This is where the journey began.

An autobiographical album, Chapter One moves through life crisis, war, passion, and aging — a scarred inner landscape set to music that shifts between extreme metal intensity and progressive rock passages. Four of the songs are written in Hebrew, carrying a direct and unfiltered voice.

While Chapter 2: Leon turns inward through a conceptual lens, Chapter One stands as a raw confrontation — personal, exposed, and immediate.
Yet the connection between them was already present: the closing track, The Ocean, now reveals itself as a first glimpse into what would later become Leon.

The album also brings together musicians from the Israeli metal scene and beyond, including Yishai Swearts (Tomorrow’s Rain), Aharon Ragoza (Shredhead), Amir Neubach (The Genders), Filip Leo (HÖST), Yohai Davidoff (UnderCrownned), Yossi Fine (David Bowie), and Tomy Minas.
