??? Long-Awaited Camera to Be Unveiled on October 26th??? OR 2023 first quarter??? Sony a7R V Release Date...
: everything we know so far and what we want to see... By Andrew Williams

◆ Where will Sony's 'Resolution' go next???

The V has been tipped to launch very soon – and if you shoot a lot of landscapes, weddings or portraits, it could be one of the most exciting launches of the year. The Sony A7R V(opens in new tab) could be arriving as soon as October 2022 with a record-setting image sensor, as reports suggest that Sony is locked in an arms race with Canon to deliver the world's first full-frame 100MP sensor

Back in the innocent days of 2019, we gave the IV one of our coveted 'product of the year' awards. The impressive 61MP full-frame camera was in many ways a precursor to the , as it managed to combine its high-resolution with relatively rapid 10fps burst shooting.

It was already a safe bet that the Sony A7R V would pack a sensor with greater resolution than the 61MP boasted by its predecessor, the Sony A7R IV(opens in new tab) – particularly since the new Sigma fp L(opens in new tab) also features a 61MP sensor. However, with rumors that the Canon EOS R5S will be a 100MP camera(opens in new tab), it appears that business has just picked up

Sony already has a 102MP full-frame image sensor, the -capable IMX555CQR, which could easily be adapted for the Sony A7R V – and you can expect that Sony will incorporate its usual pixel shift technology to quadruple the resolution when used for still life setups.

So where might take its full-frame 'Resolution' series next? The rumors are pointing towards a Sony release in late November, but its upgrades are less easy to predict. Whereas video-led cameras have a clear upgrade path towards resolution capture, better color depth and higher maximum frame rates, the best direction for the Sony isn't quite as obvious.

If the a7R V did boast an 85+ MP sensor, it would be the highest-megapixel full-frame camera, mirrorless or otherwise, of all time. Yet at present, the 61 MP a7R IV already holds that title – albeit alongside the Sigma fp L – so it’s worth asking: How interested is Sony in surpassing its own vaunted technology?

🎥 could feature with a similar cooling heat sink system on a7S III. And the body design is between a mix with a7 IV and a7S III. With this heat sink, Sony a7R V can record 8K videos up to 30 minutes.

🎬 🙅the Sony a7R IV might already lead the pack, but competitors will take advantage of every opportunity to outperform Sony; in fact, a recent rumor suggests that the Canon EOS R1 will leapfrog the a7R IV to become the “new resolution king.” In other words, Sony will need to keep pushing with the a7R V – or risk being outclassed by or

its coming... 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗜𝗜 with 𝟯𝟮 𝗼𝗿 𝟯𝟲 𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗹 + 𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗗 𝟰𝗞 + 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗦𝗢...
after the Eos R6 success, another baby on board👍 much awaited Canon 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗜𝗜 rumored to be launching with 𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗦 in 2023 first quarter... The next 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥 could be significantly more powerful👍 most recent reports, 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥 production is stopped and 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗜𝗜 production line is on... the company will release not one but two new full-frame mirrorless cameras in the first half of this year: the ultra-high-speed/resolution Canon #𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥𝟏 we reported on last week, and the 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗜𝗜.

The Canon 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥 is over three year + old, but rumors are already circling that a Canon 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗜𝗜 will launch next year with #𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗦 (in-body ) and a range of other spec boosts that'll push it further into 'pro' territory.

According to the usually-reliable Canon Rumors, the will combine 𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗦 and video with Dual Pixel AF and 12fps burst shooting. There's no mention of whether or not the latter includes AF/AE locking, though we'd imagine it doesn't considering the 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥's peak 8fps continuous shooting was without focus tracking.

That isn't the end of the rumored new features either, with a new 32-megapixel sensor, extended ISO 100-51,200 range and Canon's new Digic X processor apparently also likely to be on board.

That Digic X processor was recently debuted in the Canon 1DX Mark III and is a fairly significant new processor, given it supports Canon's new 'Deep Learning' autofocus. This allows it to go beyond traditional Face and Eye Tracking by locking onto faces, even when they're obscured by things like helmets or even turned away from you.

One final surprise inclusion on the rumored specs is a slot, which will apparently sit alongside a standard SD card slot.

Promising even better performance than the the XQD cards seen in the likes of the Nikon Z6, cards are a new format that's particularly great for shooting action and sports, thanks to their impressive write speeds.

The downside is that they're currently very expensive, which is perhaps why Canon might include it alongside a standard SD slot. It would also help silence the many critics of the 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥, who complained that it only had one SD card slot.

These specs are all very much rumors right now, and with no other 𝗘𝗼𝘀 𝗥 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗜𝗜 leaks, it would seem a possible successor to Canon's mirrorless flagship is still a little way off. But with several new lenses planned for 2023, the inclusion of IBIS and the company's new Digic X processor would certainly make a compelling mirrorless combination that could take the camera crown back from in our best cameras list.
