Understanding policy is the first step towards real change.

There are around 7,493 central and state government recognized manual scavengers across Karnataka – 4,566 by GoK and 2,927 by National Safai Karamcharis Finance & Development Corporation (NSKFDC).

However, many sanitation workers collectives and their coordinators aren't fully aware of their rights and support schemes like NAMASTE.

To bridge this gap, Biome, UMC, eGov, and community leaders organized a workshop to make sense of what NAMASTE really offers – and how it can change lives. This workshop brought coordinators of the sanitation workers collective, community leaders, and experts together to clarify rights, benefits, and gaps in implementation. More than information-sharing, it opened space for dialogue towards safer, more dignified sanitation work going forward.

Alongside this, our on-ground impact continues in collaboration with Thamate's Safai Karamchari Kavalu Samithi across Bengaluru Urban, Rural and Tumkuru.

~91.4 lacs in financial support for 35 manual scavenger beneficiaries
Entrepreneurship, financial literacy and skills trainings conducted for 122 candidates.
71 loan application submitted on behalf of the beneficiaries.
Micro entrlerprises such as small dairy, retail shops, silk weaving and sheep rearing are being set up with the help of loans and subsidies.

Read the complete post for information on the workshop and the NAMASTE Scheme.
