What does meaningful learning actually look like in a classroom?

Recent discussions on teaching and learning practices have highlighted an important reality: learning outcomes are shaped not only by curriculum and assessments, but also by the everyday experiences children have inside classrooms.

The discussions bring attention to the need for more interactive and emotionally supportive learning spaces where children are encouraged to question, participate, communicate, and engage meaningfully with ideas rather than rely only on repetition and memorisation.

For organisations working in education, this is an important reminder that foundational learning extends beyond literacy and numeracy alone. It also includes confidence, curiosity, expression, participation, and a child’s sense of belonging within the classroom.

At OBLF, we believe meaningful learning begins when children feel empowered to actively participate in their own learning journey.

Vinutha knew from a young age that care and healing were where she belonged.

She trained at Manipal School of Nursing and went on to work in critical care, including as a nurse in the Adult Intensive Thoracic Unit at Narayana Health, a role that demanded precision, resilience, and strong clinical skills. When she joined OBLF as a palliative care nurse, she brought all of that experience into a very different kind of setting.

In community care, no two days are the same.

Every home is a new story,

Every family, a new relationship built on trust.

Unlike hospital settings, she becomes part of the patient's life, present not just medically, but emotionally too.

The moments that stay with her are often the smallest. A patient's smile. A simple thank you. Being present when someone needed care the most. For Vinutha, those are not small things; they are the heart of why she does this work.

For her, nursing has always been a calling. And every day at OBLF, she continues to honour it.
