DO IT YOURSELF VASTU FOR URBAN LIVING

Being an interior decorator, I come across a cross section of society. Indeed an interesting facet. Something impressed upon me to write this because of the upsurge of people showing great interest in Vastu for their homes these days which is indeed surprising. The extent to which some go is incredible.They walk into a house with a compass and are almost ready to upturn the house ! What most of them do not understand is that , all of this can be accomplished in case you are planning to build your own house on a piece of land. What the tree would bear , only time would say. At least your desire would be satiated for the time being and of course, some ' lucky ' in betweens would make a big buck ! May be the Vastu luck is shared .
How far would you go for a vastu compliant home, in today's age and time ? The education graph is going higher by the day. Children are going abroad and a whole lot of us have migrated from villages and towns to cosmopolitan cities with its sky scrapers. We certainly do not have much choice. Do we ? The new age is looking more for homes nearer to their work places , gated colonies with amenities and safety which is paramount.
Do any of you believe that every 100percent Vastu compliant house or office holds only good news , best of luck, and prosperity for the inmates ? There is no man without his share of problems, Amitabh Bachchan or the President Barack Obama. In ancient times ,Vastu was even more prevalent . Why then did the Shaniwarwada be a mute spectator to only tragedies one after the other ?
There are a lot many steps you can take yourself which also are scientific and Vastu compliant. But these are general guidelines.
1). There should be plenty of sunlight filtering into your home. Sunlight disinfects, keep the walls dry, moisture free and fungus free.
2) Cross ventilation is very important. It keeps the house free of odour, claustrophobia and cool even in the worst of summers.
3) Vastu is against cluttering of spaces. Make it a habit to de clutter at least once in two months. By cluttering you are not allowing good fortune to come in. Hoarding is also a bad habit. If you have not used clothes or certain items for more than an year, give it away. This simply means that you did not miss it, or it does not fit you. It is not for you then. Give it away for a good cause. That will earn you Karma points . When you decide to give, wash the clothes and do not give faded and torn clothes. After all you are doing a good deed remember that.
4). In the evenings make sure the rooms are well lit. After all a well lit room is a sign of high morale ! Darkness brings in negativity and depression.
5). Have doors opening inwards for convenience and hinges well oiled. Otherwise it will make that squeaky, scrunchy noise, unpleasant especially at nights ! The main door must be larger than the other doors of the house for obvious reasons. All your guests and furniture have to come in this way.
6) Best not to have beams criss crossing above your bed or extensively throughout the house. The danger of it falling is great. Earthquake prone areas must be extra careful.
7). The house must be clean and dust free. Hence, do not pick up offices and homes near flyovers and metros. Remember that cleanliness is next to Godliness.
8). Emphasize on greenery. Every kind is available. The sunshine kind, the ones that need shade so on and so forth. It keeps your eyes cool and a good distraction after office. Have an aquarium or a little pond depending on the space you have in the north East direction. Is this not a great hobby and diversion ?
9). Living next to a garbage dump is most unhealthy. You are giving an open invitation to diseases. Also do not buy property in low lying areas. Dengue and Malaria are waiting to say hello to you !
10) Basement rooms are not Vastu compliant. If you have one , only store things there. It is damp and dark where no fresh air and light penetrates.
11). Box beds though space saving , need to be avoided. You are lying on 'seasons ' 'memories gone by' and also may be electronic items too!
12). Mirror, Mirror on the wall ------- ? Avoid putting a mirror on the wall you are exiting. But having a mirror on the opposite wall is good to take away negativity of people who walk in ! That is if you indeed believe in it. The dressing table must be on the side of the bed and not opposite your bed.
13) We most importantly need to have the intellect that the most important attributes is to live a clean and good life, free from EVIL, CORRUPT and DELETERIOUS practices. Someone makes money the wrong way and builds a citadel, don't you think it will last ? It will surely fall VASTU or no VASTU ! !
