A new Vande Bharat Express now runs between Bengaluru and Ernakulam, operating six days a week except for Wednesdays.

The train departs from KSR Bengaluru at 5:10 am and arrives in Ernakulam at 1:50 pm, with the return journey leaving Ernakulam at 2:20 pm and reaching Bengaluru at 11:00 pm.

There are seven stops on the route: Krishnarajapuram, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, and Thrissur.

Important Update for Rail Passengers

•Effective Date: From 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱.

•Rule: For the first 15 minutes after general reservation booking opens for any train, 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝑨𝒂𝒅𝒉𝒂𝒂𝒓-𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒔 can book tickets through the IRCTC website/app.

•Purpose: To stop misuse by unscrupulous elements who block tickets within minutes of the booking window opening, especially on busy routes.

•After 15 Minutes: Authorised agents will also be allowed to book online reservations.

•No Change: In the process/timing of booking general reserved tickets at railway counters (PRS).

•Background: A similar rule for Tatkal bookings earlier proved effective, leading to its extension for general reservations.

The Yeshwantpur–Mangaluru Gomteshwara Express, which features the popular Vistadome coach, will remain suspended until early November 2025 due to ongoing electrification work between Sakleshpur and Subramanya Road.

This decision, effective since June 1, also affects the Yeshwantpur–Mangaluru Weekly Express and Yeshwantpur–Karwar Tri-weekly Express. The suspension has dealt a blow to Karnataka’s tourism, as the Vistadome service is especially popular during the monsoon for its panoramic views of the Western Ghats and coastal Karnataka.

Currently, South Western Railway operates only two trains with Vistadome coaches. While electrification work is aimed at long-term improvements, travelers and rail enthusiasts express disappointment at missing out on the scenic monsoon journey. The delay highlights challenges of balancing infrastructure projects with tourism needs.

After five years, Indian Railways is set to marginally increase train fares starting 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓. The hike is focused on 𝐀𝐂 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬, with 𝐀𝐂 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟐 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐤𝐦 and 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐀𝐂 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐲 𝟏 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐤𝐦. This move aims to boost railway revenue without significantly burdening passengers.

There will be 𝐧𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐤𝐞 for suburban trains, monthly passes, or second-class travel for 500 km. The increase could generate an 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 ₹𝟕𝟎𝟎 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐞 in FY 2025–26, with 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐨𝐟 ₹𝟗𝟐,𝟖𝟎𝟎 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐞 in passenger earnings by 2026.

Key projected additional earnings by class:
• AC 3: ₹533.8 crore
• Sleeper: ₹292.3 crore
• AC 2: ₹93.1 crore
• AC Chair Car: ₹56.4 crore
• AC 1: ₹9.6 crore
• Executive Class: ₹4.7 crore

The fare hike is designed to avoid affecting daily commuters and is expected to be implemented soon, pending final government notification.

The initiative is inspired by 𝐑𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐧 in Delhi and aims to promote public participation in democracy.
