Ever catch yourself saying “very tired” or “really tasty” in your IELTS Speaking? 😅
Let’s take those everyday words and LEVEL THEM UP 💥

Instead of:
💧 *Very bad* → say **atrocious**
🧠 *Very smart* → say **exceptionally astute**
🍕 *Really tasty* → say **delectable**
📚 *Interesting* → say **captivating**
😴 *Very tired* → say **utterly exhausted**

👀 Sound fancy? Maybe. But they’re easier to remember than you think.

✨ Tip: Use them in fun sentences that mean something to *you*:
“I was utterly exhausted after binge-watching 5 episodes 😵‍💫”
“This pizza is absolutely delectable—I’m in love! 🍕❤️”

Let’s break down what a Band 8 response actually looks like—AND what you’d need to improve for that elusive 9 👇

🟢 1. Task Achievement – Band 8
You’ve addressed all three bullet points. The purpose is clear (e.g., telling a friend about your new job), and the tone feels informal and friendly—perfect for the audience.
📌 To hit Band 9: Add richer, more personalized storytelling. Instead of saying, “Work has been busy,” say:
👉 “On my second day, I was asked to present our campaign strategy to the entire team — nerve-wracking but thrilling!”

🟢 2. Coherence & Cohesion – Band 8
Your paragraphs flow logically, and transitions like “so far,” “however,” and “what I particularly like” help connect ideas.
📌 To hit Band 9: Spice it up with informal connectors that mirror natural speech, like:
👉 “To be honest,” “On top of that,” or “What’s even better is…”

🟢 3. Lexical Resource – Band 8
You’re using solid, topic-appropriate vocabulary: “customer engagement data,” “supportive work culture.” No awkward phrases or errors.
📌 To hit Band 9: Go beyond textbook English—try natural, spoken expressions like:
👉 “The best part is that I don’t feel micromanaged at all—they really trust us to get things done.”

🟢 4. Grammar Range & Accuracy – Band 8
You’ve got a great mix of simple and complex sentences and strong control over tenses and punctuation.
📌 To hit Band 9: Use more advanced structures like conditionals or inversions.
👉 “Had I known the commute would be so exhausting, I might’ve looked for a place closer to the office.”

✅ Overall Band: 8.0
You’re fluent. You’re accurate. But you’re not yet vivid, expressive, or naturally flowing enough for a Band 9.

💬 Fluency & Coherence – Band 8
You speak smoothly with a natural flow—no awkward pauses, no “umm…” or repetition.
🧩 Use cohesive devices like luckily, once, not only...but also to connect ideas seamlessly.
✅ Your thoughts are structured, your message is clear.
📖 Lexical Resource – Band 8
Your vocabulary is rich and precise.
🎯 Use expressions like printed resume, disastrous situation, just a few taps—all showing you own the language.
You’re not just using words—you’re choosing the right ones.
🔠 Grammar Range & Accuracy – Band 8
You’re a master of both simple and complex structures.
Examples:
• “I had saved digital copies on my smartphone.”
• “Not only did it save me…, but it also gave me…”
• “Once I arrived in the city, I went straight to the shop…”
💡 No errors, and your sentences flow with variety and intention.
🔊 Pronunciation – Band 8
We may not hear it here, but based on sentence rhythm and word choice, your pronunciation is likely clear and natural.
📌 Word and sentence stress are on point, making your delivery confident and easy to follow.
📌 Overall Band 8 = Controlled, Confident, and Cohesive.
