At just 13, Pratishtha Deveshwar’s life changed forever when a car accident left her paralyzed from the neck down. For months she lay in the hospital, and for years she was confined to her bed.

Many around her doubted her future, some even said, Why send a girl in a wheelchair to university? But Pratishtha refused to give up.

With the support of her parents, she studied from home and topped her class. Her big leap came when she got admission into Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi, moving away from home despite all odds.

Living independently, she learned to travel by metro, shop, and manage life on her own. Slowly, her journey became one of activism and inspiration, taking her to global platforms like the United Nations.

Today, she has made history as the first Indian woman in a wheelchair to study at Oxford University, pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy. Awarded the prestigious Diana Award, Pratishtha stands as a symbol of courage, proving that it’s not circumstances but determination that defines destiny.
