An Australian man in his 40s has become the first person in the world to survive over 100 days with a fully artificial titanium heart while waiting for a transplant.

It was reported that the device, known as the BiVACOR Total Artificial Heart, was created by a US-Australian team and implanted at a hospital in Sydney.

Unlike a traditional heart, this device has no valves or chambers. Instead, it relies on a magnetically levitated rotor to push blood through the body, taking over the work of both sides of the heart.

It’s small, quiet, and built to last, designed to keep patients alive until a suitable donor heart is found.

After 105 days of depending solely on this titanium heart, the patient finally received a transplant and is now on the road to recovery.

This medical milestone offers new hope for people with severe heart failure, proving that future transplants might not rely on a natural pulse, but on cutting-edge engineering instead.
