A New Green Beginning at Kembanaickapalayam, Annur

A once barren and thorn-covered land at Kembanaickapalayam, Annur, is set to be transformed into a thriving green space. With the support of the HR & CE Department and Kannapiran Mills, a Bhoomi Pooja was held on 10.06.2026 to mark the planting of 1,500 saplings.

The site will be carefully cleared, levelled, and prepared to support the growth of the saplings. In addition, a drip irrigation system will be installed to provide the necessary care and nourishment during their early stages of growth, ensuring healthy establishment and long-term survival.

A Lake Reborn. A Community Reconnected.

Once choked by sewage inflow, sludge accumulation, and years of neglect, Thangal Lake in Sholinganallur has been transformed into a vibrant urban ecosystem through a collaborative effort by Infosys, the Water Resources Department, the Greater Chennai Corporation, and Siruthuli.

Spread across 23 acres, the lake has undergone extensive rejuvenation through desilting, wastewater diversion and treatment, ensuring that only freshwater enters the lake. The restoration has increased the lake's water-holding capacity by nearly 300 million litres, strengthening its role in groundwater recharge and urban water security.

To enhance ecological health, two biodiversity islands were created and planted with Vetiver grass, while floating Vetiver systems have been introduced to naturally improve water quality and support a healthier aquatic ecosystem.

The project also creates a welcoming public space for the community, featuring a 1.5 km walking pathway, walkers' park, children's play area, solar lighting, and visitor amenities, allowing people to reconnect with nature in the heart of the city.

The rejuvenated lake was inaugurated on 05.06.2026 by ECR Saravanan, MLA, Sholinganallur, and Aftab Rasool, Regional Deputy Commissioner, Chennai, in the presence of the leadership teams from Infosys and Siruthuli.

And nature has already begun to respond.
What was once a polluted lake is now a living ecosystem, a source of water, biodiversity, and hope for future generations.
