The road to E100 isn't a switch, it's a roadmap.
In the latest episode of The Future of Flex Fuel, ISMA Director General, Deepak Ballani sits down with Mugdha Mishra, Editor, Autocar Professional, to unpack what it will really take for India to move beyond E20.
Flex-fuel vehicles, engines calibrated to run on anything from E0 to E100, won't see full adoption overnight. With initial pe*******on expected at just 10-20%, near-term ethanol demand stays well within existing capacity. But looking beyond 2030, the conversation shifts to second-generation ethanol, made from agro-waste and crop residues, as the next lever of scale, backed by growing industry appetite to invest.
As the DG puts it, what matters most now is a clear government roadmap: a calibrated path from E20 to E25, E27, and eventually E85 or E100.
