Government Introduces Transition Facilitation (Quality Control) Order, 2026

The Government of India has notified the Transition Facilitation (Quality Control) Order, 2026, providing a structured mechanism to facilitate compliance under various notified Quality Control Orders (QCOs).

Key Highlights:
✅ Applicable to products covered under the specified Quality Control Orders (QCOs).
✅ Manufacturers supplying to approved entities can obtain BIS licences under Scheme-II.
✅ Permissions will be granted by DPIIT based on technical capability, compliance history, quality assurance systems, and supply chain readiness.
✅ Applications for transition facilitation can be submitted within 24 months from the commencement of the Order.
✅ The Order will remain effective for five years, unless extended by the Government.

India has made BIS Certification mandatory for more than 90 categories of electrical appliances under the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2026.

📅 Compliance Deadline: 1 October 2026

The regulation applies to a wide range of household, commercial, and industrial electrical appliances. Products covered under the order must comply with IS 302 (Part 1):2024 and carry the ISI Mark before they can be legally sold in India.
