Today, India marks 73 years of freedom. Not only is it an occasion to commemorate, but it also reminds us to be responsible and respectful citizens. It is the day when we ought to pay tribute to the sacrifices and bravery of our servicemen and soldiers protecting the nation.
We at Utthaan strive to make India free from the shackles of social evils that exist in the society, to achieve freedom in a more holistic sense.

India is home to six crore alcohol addicts, more than the population of 172 world nations, including Italy. 56% of the people living in slum communities in India are victims of substance and alcohol abuse.

These facts are scary but what's even scarier is the extent of damage that drug addiction can cause to one’s body and mind.

UN witnesses the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to emphasize the need to improve the understanding of the world drug problem and how greater cooperation can save those affected.

Let's reaffirm our commitment to a drug abuse-free society and value ourselves, making and propagating healthy choices against drug abuse!

It is incredibly sad that India, the land of hopes, dreams and aspirations, has so many children who are forced to face drudgery every single day without any ray of hope for a better future. This crime of child labour is a social evil that should be eradicated at all costs.

Stocked refrigerators and safe shelters are big blessings to have, especially in such testing times.

However, not everyone has enough means. Some of us are privileged but what really matters is what we make of that privilege.

If each one of us contributes in our own little ways then we can together reach out to the millions of people who have been left without livelihood, food and shelter. Our collective efforts can help arm thousands hit by despair to fight this pandemic.

The strength of every individual taken together will break the shackles that tie down this nation.

The strength of the people of the cities, suburbs, villages and slums. All together.
Let's help one another rise above the storm and build a stronger republic.
