: The Haryana government has knocked the doors of the Supreme Court to pave the way for legalisation of mining activity in the state’s eco-sensitive Aravalli range. The government has claimed that it has to focus on boosting economic activity owing to the slowdown caused by the pandemic.

Meanwhile, mining in the area is being widely opposed by activists and local residents who say fear further loss of biodiversity and bigger risks of pollution and mining-generated waste. The Supreme Court had banned activity in the region since 2002, after which multiple orders were issued against illegal mining going on in the Aravalli ranges aimed at flattening them.

Activists and lawyers allege that in the garb of economic recovery, the state was continuing its pre-pandemic agenda of benefitting the builder lobby, sidelining citizen’s interests.

If the climate crisis doesn’t stop, then why should we?

On March 14th, as part of - we did chalk drawing at to get people attention to the climate crisis.

The reason for doing something like this on the streets was to start dialogue- “Streets are something which is accessible to everyone despite their socio economic status or age.” Street artists have been using urban space as an opportunity to display their artwork while breaking from traditional practices. Everyone uses the same streets whether they're rich or poor, young or old.

There are so many environmental and sustainability conferences happen from time to time but that keeps the general public out of discussion on climate change. We feel like it is the time that the climate debate now needs to go out to the streets and we all need to talk about the climate crisis because it is a crisis.

It’s undeniable that is a matter of greater public concern and its devastating effect is evident in India as in other parts of the world. Now we don’t need enough evidence on what is happening at local level and global levels. We all are breathing 15-20 ci******es just by living in Delhi and at the global level- the frequency and intensity of floods, hurricanes, heatwaves, drought and other climate related events are rising. And as a consequence we are losing 200 species every single day. Since 1970, the global population has doubled and we have lost 83% of wildlife. We have to understand that the world is not just a human playground.

As a youth, we have the biggest stake in this planet and if global temperatures keep on rising- our future will be disturbed.

If things are going to change, it has to be done by our generation. Join us and thousands worldwide on March 19th for to demand meaningful from our elected representatives.
