Reticular pain ⚡ Part -1 ✴️✴️

Definition & Presentation...

Radicular pain is a type of nerve pain caused by inflammation (with or without) compression of the lumbosacral nerve roots, specifically in the L4' L5' and S1 region.

It may be caused by abnormal nerve function and can manifest with various sensory and motor symptoms, including..

1- Paraesthesia: Abnormal sensations like, numbness, tingling or pins and needles.

2- Pain: Typically felt in the buttock and radiating down towards the leg.

3-:Hyperalgesia: An increased sensitivity to pain.
4- Allodynia: Painful response to stimuli that are not typically painful (e.g., light touch sensor).
5- Hyperreflexia: Exaggerated reflex responses.
6- Muscle Spasms: Involuntary muscle contractions.

This pain often travels from the buttock down the leg and may extend below the knee or cough muscle.
Understanding these characteristic features of radicular pain is essential for clinicians to make an accurate diagnosis and differentiate it from other musculoskeletal conditions or spinal conditions that may have nearly similar symptoms.

⚡ Differential diagnosis is crucial in ensuring that patients receive appropriate and effective treatment.

Risk Factors: May include.

Distal⚡⚡

Driving a lot. eg- Car driving .
Obesity
Manual work
Work bending down
Smoking
Mental stress
Poor job satisfaction

Proximal.⚡⚡

Disc lesion
Spinal/Recess stenosis and
Spondylolisthesis

sume other....

1- Age: Radicular pain is more common in older individuals, as age-related changes in the spine can increase the risk of nerve compression.

2- Trauma: Injuries to the spine can lead to nerve compression and subsequent radicular pain.

3- Occupation: Certain occupations that involve heavy lifting or repetitive movements can increase the risk of spinal issues leading to pain.

4- Genetics: Family history can play a role in some spine-related conditions, increasing the risk.

5- Lifestyle: Factors like smoking, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to spinal problems.

Diagnosis:

✴️Medical History: A healthcare provider will gather information about your symptoms, medical history, and risk factors.
✴️Physical Examination: A physical examination may include testing your reflexes, muscle strength, and sensation in the affected area.
✴️Imaging: Imaging tests like X-rays, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), or CT (Computed Tomography) scans can help identify the underlying spinal issues causing radicular pain.
✴️Electromyography (EMG): EMG tests can assess nerve and muscle function, helping to pinpoint the location and severity of nerve compression in the body.

👉👉 Radicular pain disturbs your life so be careful.
