As legal professionals, our days at Karkardooma Court are usually spent fighting for rights and seeking justice. Yesterday, I took a brief pause from the regular court proceedings to serve society in a much more direct way—by donating blood at the camp held right within the court premises.
A big thank you to the team from Bhagwan Buddha Charitable Blood Centre for organizing this drive. We often look for grand ways to give back to the community, but sometimes, a simple, 15-minute gesture is all it takes to save a life.
I strongly encourage my colleagues and everyone in my network to step forward and donate whenever they see a local camp. 🩸⚖️

Writ, Appeal, or Revision? Navigating the High Court in 2026.
Approaching the High Court is a significant step in any legal journey. But how do you know which "door" to knock on? Choosing the wrong procedure can lead to unnecessary delays and costs.
In our latest Legal Knowledge Series, we simplify three critical procedures:
⚖️ Writ Petitions (Article 226): The primary shield against the violation of Fundamental Rights and government inaction.
⚖️ Criminal Appeals: The essential path to challenging a conviction or seeking justice against an acquittal.
⚖️ Civil Revisions (Section 115 CPC): A vital tool to correct jurisdictional errors made by lower courts.
Whether you are a litigant, a law student, or a business owner, understanding these legal pathways is the first step toward effective justice.

Understanding Digital Payment Defaults in 2026.
As India’s economy pivots almost entirely toward UPI, NACH, and e-mandates, a critical legal question has surfaced:
Does the law treat a failed digital click with the same gravity as a dishonored paper cheque?
The short answer is Yes. But the long answer involves a complex intersection of the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act and the newly implemented Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023.
The Legal Reality of E-Mandates
Under Section 25 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, the dishonor of an electronic funds transfer is legally equivalent to a cheque bounce under Section 138 of the NI Act. Whether it is a physical signature or a digital authorization, the liability remains criminal in nature if the default arises from "insufficient funds" or a deliberate "stop payment" instruction.
What Has Changed with BSA 2023?
The biggest shift in 2026 is how we prove these defaults in court. Under the BSA 2023, electronic records are no longer "secondary" evidence; they are the bedrock of the case.
Admissibility: Transaction logs, server failure reports, and automated bank emails are now critical.
The Certificate Requirement: To ensure these logs are admissible, they must be accompanied by a specific digital certificate proving the record hasn't been tampered with.
A Modern Scenario for Businesses
Consider a subscription-based service or a vendor with a recurring e-mandate. If a client deliberately blocks the mandate to avoid payment, it is not merely a "technical failure." It is a breach of a legal mandate that can trigger criminal proceedings, provided a statutory 30-day notice is served correctly.
Key Takeaways for 2026:
Fund Timing: Ensure accounts are funded 24 hours prior to mandate dates to avoid "technical" dishonors.
Log Retention: Businesses must maintain unedited, certified digital logs of every failed transaction.
Statutory Compliance: The transition from paper to digital does not remove the requirement for a formal legal notice before litigation.
At Rana & Rana Law Firm, we believe that staying ahead of the "Tech-Law" curve is the only way to ensure financial discipline in a digital-first world.
