​As India’s economy pivots almost entirely toward UPI, NACH, and e-mandates, a critical legal question has surfaced:
Does the law treat a failed digital click with the same gravity as a dishonored paper cheque?
​The short answer is Yes. But the long answer involves a complex intersection of the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act and the newly implemented Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023.

​Under Section 25 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, the dishonor of an electronic funds transfer is legally equivalent to a cheque bounce under Section 138 of the NI Act.
