A shunt reactor is a device that absorbs reactive power, thereby increasing the energy efficiency of the system. The main function of the shunt reactor is to stabilize the voltage during load variations. It is a compact device commonly used for reactive power compensation in high-voltage transmission lines. A traditional shunt reactor has a fixed rating (fixed shunt reactor) and is either connected to the power line all the time or switched in and out, depending on the load.
Factors driving the shunt reactor market include augmentation and modernization of the transmission and distribution (T&D) network, rise in the number of alternative renewable energy programs in emerging economies, and upgradation of ageing technology in developed nations.
