1-Convection: This occurs when heat transfers from the newborn’s skin to the surrounding air. Newborns lose a significant amount of heat through convection when exposed to cold air or drafts.

2-Conduction: Heat loss happens when the newborn comes into contact with a cold surface. For instance, if a naked newborn lies on a cold table, weighing scale, or is wrapped in a cold blanket or towel, they lose heat through conduction.

3-Evaporation: Newborns lose heat through evaporation from their wet skin. This can occur after delivery or during a bath. Even a wet nappy can contribute to heat loss through evaporation.

4-Radiation: Heat dissipates from the newborn’s skin to distant cold objects, such as a cold window or wall.
