30th July 2025 – World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

There are many lived experiences of survivors across the world and in India. Based on our ongoing work with NGOs and organisations in the anti‑trafficking ecosystem, here is an Space2Grow’s article with some key learnings and ideas for change.

As expertly put by Emma Persson, Innovation and Technology Research Fellow, UNICRI Centre for AI and Robotics, at our AI Webinar, she emphasised that the rise of AI (especially generative AI) has escalated both the scale and severity of crimes against children in the online world, making it one of the fastest-growing global threats.

Speaking on behalf of UNICRI and drawing on their capacity-building ‘AI for Safer Children initiative’ (in partnership with the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates) and research paper ‘Generative AI: A New Threat for Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse’ in collaboration with the Brackett Foundation and Value for Good, she explained that beyond generating harmful images, AI is also being used to generate text through chatbots and guides that enable and reinforce harmful behaviour.
