Tw: Since we took over a majority sector of an area abandoned during covid 20', we have lost hundreds of dogs to hit & run cases 🚗 a part of us has always felt miserable that we weren't able to save them from this cruel death.
Even though we spent hours locating them in areas when they went and hid after they were ill/injured, the guilt of not being able to save them when we weren't there always hit home hard.

For 350+dogs, new ones who come in either abandoned/relocated or just unfortunate to find themselves amidst this sector- life has been very unpredictable.

Every day they survive is a win for them & us, but the reality of day to day survival is on of extreme sadness and suffocation.

Today sugreev who had already been run over by a car last year, healed and released was hit once again last night.
This time, there was no guilt just sadness.
We had reflective collars, we took preventive measures to make sure he'd survive as long as possible and we hope he makes it throught - but today I write this with the understanding that life is the way it is.

All we can do it just make it a little better and bearable, one day at a time for the ones who have no one but us.
Gratitude to my team for always putting them first ahead of themselves.

Gone, but never forgotten.

Choti // 1.4.18 - 10.4.25

One fine day during our walks at leisure valley we came across a litter of pups born to the late Roshni.
Little choti popped into our lives with her siblings Rocky, bondhu, loki, big boy & bholu.
Rocky & bholu the only survivors of the pack now.

One day in May 2029, her siblings got into a scuffle and she had a huge wound on her neck.
We sent her to a NGO for treatment near jhajjar, only for them to ghost us a week later and not provide any updates.

Dad & I drove got into the car to see choti and snuck into the ngo in the pretext of meeting her, the whole place smelled of illness & death.

We rescued her and got her back to our place, knowing the timid lil creature wouldn't survive on the streets - her pack with three alpha males would chase her away, just like they did with bholu.

Chotu was like a lil monkey always jumping here and there, sitting on top of anything she could land on.

Her fav food was noodles & plain roti. She'd gulp them within mini seconds.

The last few months, choti's liver had given way but we tried our best to save her - her spirit remained intact until the last moments where she could not even open her eyes.

A warrior with the kindest little soul, Choti's absence leaves a void in our hearts.
While we knew this day would come, the only solace we have is that she won't suffer anymore.

Hope you have a wonderful time up there with your fam, your mum Roshni & your siblings big boy & loki.

RIP lil one.

Will miss your presence everyday.
