Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) was formed on 20th December 1963, quickly after the Sino-Indian War with a motto – Service, security and brotherhood. SSB's primary role is to prevent cross-border crime and smuggling, as well as other anti-national activities. And on the other hand, their secondary task is to inculcate feelings of national belonging amongst the border population and assist them in developing their capabilities for resistance through a continuous process of motivation, training, development and welfare programmes.
