It is truly inspiring to witness the remarkable efforts of the INTACH especially the Heritage Craft and Community Division (HCCD), in promoting and preserving India’s rich cultural legacy.
The thoughtfully curated walkthrough at Jor Bagh Metro Station, along with the insightful presentations, reflects the depth of vision and dedication with which HCCD is working towards safeguarding our heritage. The focus on initiatives like the Lodhi Art District beautifully highlights how heritage and contemporary public art can coexist and engage communities meaningfully.
A heartfelt appreciation to Bindu Manchanda ma’am for her inspiring leadership and commitment, and to Ms. Radhika Malhotra for her valuable contribution in showcasing impactful projects and interventions.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to Ashok Singh Thakur ji for his constant guidance and support in strengthening INTACH’s vision and outreach across the country.
Such initiatives not only educate and engage members but also motivate all of us to actively contribute towards the preservation and promotion of India’s diverse craft traditions and heritage.🙌👏💐🙏

It gives us great pleasure to invite you to the sixteenth Pupul Jayakar Memorial Lecture – 'Dynasts of Dakshinā Patha: Coinage and History of the Satavahanas' by Dr Shailendra Bhandare on 17th April 2026 at 6:30 pm at Alliance Française, 72, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi.
The Satavahanas were among the first imperial dynasties in the Deccan and Peninsular India. Spanning two centuries around the beginning of the Common Era, the 'Satavahana Age' witnessed key developments such as urbanization, the emergence of script cultures, trade with the Mediterranean world, and the flourishing of Buddhist monumental architecture.
Coinage, though often overlooked, is a vital source for reconstructing this period. The lecture will highlight the importance of numismatic evidence in understanding the Satavahana era, focusing on post-Mauryan regional polities, revisiting Satavahana chronology, and examining trade and political developments through coins.
Dr Shailendra Bhandare is Curator of South Asian and Far Eastern Numismatics at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and a Fellow of St Cross College. He has previously worked with the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Society for South Asian Studies, and the British Museum, and has published extensively on Indian numismatics and monetary history.
Join us for tea at 6:00 pm before the event.
The lecture will be live streamed—https://youtube.com/live/1sbtlVBjbOA?feature=share
