Congratulations to Mr. Akshay G M from the Laboratory of Molecular Biology Group for successfully defending his thesis titled:

“Understanding the Virulent Properties of ESAT-6 Protein of Mycobacterium tuberculosis”

Under the guidance of Dr. Sangita Mukhopadhyay, this work contributes to advancing our understanding of tuberculosis pathogenesis and host-pathogen interactions, strengthening efforts toward improved diagnostics and therapeutic interventions.

We wish him continued success in his scientific journey and future research endeavors.

Strengthening scientific networks through knowledge exchange and institutional exposure.

On 18 June 2026, BRIC-CDFD welcomed the second batch of newly recruited Scientists (B & C) from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) under the Field Training Programme coordinated by ICMR–National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN), Hyderabad.

The visit offered participants an opportunity to engage with BRIC-CDFD's cutting-edge research ecosystem, gain insights into advanced genomics and molecular biology platforms, and interact with scientists driving innovations in health and biomedical research. Such initiatives foster cross-institutional learning, encourage collaborative thinking, and contribute to building a skilled scientific workforce for the nation.

We thank ICMR and ICMR-NIN for facilitating this enriching engagement and look forward to nurturing future collaborations that advance science, innovation, and public health.

🦠 Antimicrobial resistance is one of the greatest public health challenges of our time. Understanding how microbes adapt, persist, and evade treatment is critical to developing the next generation of therapeutic strategies.

At BRIC-CDFD, researchers continue to explore the molecular mechanisms that drive microbial survival and infection, contributing valuable insights toward addressing the growing burden of drug-resistant diseases.

Every scientific discovery brings us a step closer to smarter interventions, improved patient outcomes, and a stronger response to the global AMR crisis.

A landmark genomic study from BRIC–CDFD has unveiled critical insights into chromosomal disorders in Southern India through a 27-year retrospective analysis of 24,633 cases (1998–2024).

By integrating conventional cytogenetics, FISH, chromosomal microarray, and whole-genome sequencing, the study maps the full spectrum of chromosomal abnormalities and reaffirms the enduring value of karyotyping in clinical genomics.

Notably, the work identifies a novel translocation disrupting EFCAB3, revealing a new neurodevelopmental genotype–phenotype link.

This study strengthens the role of cytogenetics in precision medicine, genetic counselling, and translational genomics.
