Pioneering Biodiversity: Citrullus colocynthis Genome Becomes the First ERGA Community Genome 28/09/2024

Dear All,
Nucleome Informatics is proud to have partnered with the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) in Dubai on their groundbreaking genomic project focused on *Citrullus colocynthis*. Our team provided PacBio HiFi, Hi-C, and Iso-Seq data, along with comprehensive data analysis support, contributing to the chromosome-level assembly of this drought-tolerant species. The genome assembly and annotation were validated by the European Reference Genome Atlas (ERGA) and submitted to the ERGA database, highlighting the exceptional quality of the reference genome sequenced and assembled by Nucleome.

This genome’s recognition as the first ERGA Community Genome is a significant milestone, setting a precedent for future contributions to the ERGA initiative. The project’s data has been made publicly available through ENA (umbrella BioProject PRJEB78362), encouraging further research and collaboration. The insights from this project will aid in breeding programs for resilient crops, contributing to global food security.

We sincerely thank the ICBA team, especially Dr. Hifzur Rahman, Dr. Augusto Becerra, and Dr. R. K. Singh, with a special acknowledgment to Dr. Anestis Gkanogiannis for his bioinformatics analysis support. We look forward to more innovations together.

Thanks,
Dushyant Singh Baghel,
CEO, Nucleome Informatics

Pioneering Biodiversity: Citrullus colocynthis Genome Becomes the First ERGA Community Genome In 2023, researchers at the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) in Dubai embarked on a groundbreaking genomic project. The study focused on the chromosome-level assembly and annotation of Citrullus colocynthis, a drought-tolerant wild relative of the domesticated watermelon (Citrul...

Message from CEO: We are thrilled to share with you the remarkable milestone of Nucleome completing 11 successful years as a leading Indian genomics service provider. It brings me immense pride to reflect on our journey, which has been marked by continuous learning, scientific exploration, and impactful collaborations.

Over the past 11 years, Nucleome has proudly undertaken more than 10,000 NGS projects, engaging with over 1,400 organizations. This journey has been a rich tapestry of scientific inquiry, involving discussions with researchers, and addressing a diverse array of challenges in the genomics field.

Our achievements include the construction of high-quality reference genomes for various crops, animals, insects, and microbes. Additionally, we have contributed significantly to the understanding of diseases by sequencing patients with conditions such as cancer, diabetes, gastritis, and eye disorders. The discoveries made in transcriptome sequencing have been monumental, with over 100 species' transcriptomes sequenced and an impressive 100% publication record.

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of an excellent team that I have had the privilege of working with, both in the past and the dedicated individuals in our current team. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our mentors, clients, advisors, bankers, suppliers, and technology providers, especially PacBio, Thermofisher, and Illumina, for their continued support in our endeavors.

A special mention goes to my family, whose support has played a pivotal role in smoothing out the stressful days. Today, as we celebrate our success and commitment to the community, we are proud to announce the initiation of the "GO Blue" campaign as part of our contribution to tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
